Historic Marker Nomination for the Establishment of Lanier Mansion as a State Historic Site
Completed in the summer of 2025, this project focused on the role Drusilla Lanier Cravens had on the preservation and establishment of the Lanier Mansion as a state historic site. The application was completed and submitted to the Indiana Historical Bureau in July 2025. Sadly, the marker was not selected for this year's class of Indiana markers. The resources collected during this project were shared with the staff at the Lanier Mansion historic site, the Friends of the Lanier Mansion, and the Madison/Jefferson County Public Library so that more can learn the story of the site before its 100th anniversary in 2026.
Genealogical Research Projects
Throughout 2023 and 2024, multiple genealogical projects were completed for individuals hoping to learn more about their ancestors. Each project provided documents for each family member in the tree. These projects helped the individuals share their history going back at least 5 generations.
Madison & The Ohio River
In the fall of 2023, Public History Professionals President Jessica Spiess presented a program to educational leaders in the Jefferson County community from both Ivy Tech Community College and Hanover College about the history of Madison and its industrial connections to the Ohio River. The program connected educators to the past so that they could better prepare their students to work in the community in the future.
